In Twilight’s Embrace – Vanitas

Format: Jewel case CD
Country: Poland

Info: Vanitas sees In Twilight’s Embrace evolve into their own entity; taking a deathly and personal direction. Vanitas is the band’s darkest material to date, both lyrically and musically. “Having confronted several deaths of family members and friends, made me realise the true weight of mortality,” confesses vocalist, Cyprian Łakomy. “The realisation paved the way for reflections which would later become the backbone of the lyrics and atmosphere on Vanitas”. This is not just another gimmick to create a death worshipping album. There’s far more to it. Cyprian adds: “death is an opportunity to ask questions about the here and now, and what kind of legacy – if any at all – we are possibly leaving”.

Thy Worshiper – Popiół (Introibo ad Altare Dei)

Format: Jewel case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Pagan metal

Info: Thy Worshiper’s iconic debut „Popiół” available again
After the success of last year’s „Klechdy” album, Arachnophobia Records brings back Thy Worshiper’s cult debut. The reissue of „Popiół” is due out on 25 April.

Seeking grounds for Polish black metal’s current popularity, one cannot simply base on music released within the last decade. The way things are as of now is in many respects a consequence of events dating back to 20+ years ago. 1997 was the year “Popiół (Introibo ad altare Dei)”, the debut full-length effort of Thy Worshiper was released. This particular record, along with “Grom” by Behemoth, “Forever Alone. Immortal” by Lux Occulta and Sacrilegium’s “Wicher” among others mirrored the potency of our scene back then. Melancholic Polish spirit and the charm accompanying the rebellion against Christianity were paired by surprisingly mature songwriting, resulting in a unique opus which perfectly resists the destructive nature of time. To this day, songs from “Popiół” are among the fans’ ultimate favourites.

The upcoming re-issue will feature the all new mastering done by Haldor Grunberg (Satanic Audio) as well as refreshed layout.

Wolfkhan – Cyber Necro Spirituals

Format: Digipack CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Industrial metal

Info: The name Wolfkhan has been rather unknown so far. The sole fact that the project’s history dates back to over 20 years ago makes the whole thing even more surprising.

– Wolfkhan has come into being after Thy Worshiper’s demo “Tym z krainy cieni” (“To those from the shadow realm”) release. Somehow, I’ve always had some other ideas which I thought were worth recording. This is when we released the first demo. The second one saw the light of day after TW album “Signum” had been unleashed. You can still watch the video for the single “El Diablo” on YouTube. I have always cooperated on subsequent Wolfkhan’s releases with Thy Worshiper guitar players. Recently, I felt the creative call when we had come back with “Czarna dzika czerwień” record. There was something I needed out of my system – says Wolfkhan’s mainman Marcin Gąsiorowski, also known as the leader of Thy Worshiper.

To many, a soon-to-be-unleashed debut album will be the first acquaintance with Wolfkhan. Thy Worshiper’s now longtime guitarist Dariusz Kubala, as well as the current and former female vocalists inter alia have contributed to the material. However, when compared to last year’s highly acclaimed “Klechdy” record, the contents of “Cyber Necro Spirituals” are more like an audial acid trip. Absurd and black humour meet strike post-pocalyptic, industrial notes.

December’s Fire – Vae Victis

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Black metal / Ambient

Info: No matter if it’s for authentic fascination or tongue-in-cheek nostalgia, the memory of the only full-length record of December’s Fire lives on. Originally released in 1996 by Last Epitaph Productions from Germany, “Vae Victis” in many ways embodies the aspirations of the Polish metal underground in that period. Especially of those who sought new ways of expression on its fringes. Piotr Weltrowski, member of Hefeystos and BEHEMOTH! collaborator, was at the forefront of this current. December’s Fire was his solo undertaking.

Pathos, ceremonial aura and dark poetics on one hand, on the other – synth-based, marching compositions, strongly inspired by the works of Laibach and early Cold Meat Industry catalogue were the elements which made the December’s Fire debut stand out among the rest, yet at the same time complemented a specific Zeitgeist of those days. Verses of such songs as “Patrz jak płoną dzikie róże” (“Look How the Wild Roses Burn”) or the title one, given a passionate interpretation by Behemoth’s Adam Nergal Darski are now something which dozens of fans know by heart.

“Vae Victis” owes its refreshed sound to Marcin Rybicki from Left Hand Sounds studio. Is this cult material rejuvenating? Has it aged at all?!

UR – Hail Death

Format: Digipack MCD
Country: Poland
Genre: Black metal

Info: The first strikes of winter frost create a perfect aura for the first MCD of UR. Clocking in at nearly 20 minutes, the record thrusts the listener straight into death’s cold embrace – a power equally primal, complex and intriguing. This contrast also defines the musical content of “Hail Death”. The songs which have found their way onto the release are a manifestation of raw and instinct-driven black metal which does not refrain from occasional twists.

qip – On Ephemeral Substrates

Format: Digipack CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Death Metal, Industrial Metal, Electronic

Info: On Ephemeral Substrates” is my first solo album in the true sense of the word. The project consumed almost 3 years of my life. I spent more energy on this one than on any other material of any band I have played in and I am very happy about the result. Many people asked if I had a plan to release it in a physical format. Finally, this is happening – thanks to Arachnophobia Records!

Thus spoke the author, Maciej Pasinski who co-founded Sirrah – one of the most influential and uncommon Polish band of the nineties. Both “Acme” – typical in it’s stylistics – as well as “Did Tomorrow Come?” – the dynamic and courageous album that was appreciated only after years – project a sense of Maciek’s great creative, performative and vocal flair. “On Ephemeral Substrates” takes off where “Did Tomorrow Come?” left off. Undoubtedly, this explosive mixture of death metal and industrial is a worthy successor to Sirrah’s spirit, atmosphere and bravery. The album was performed (with minor guest appearances), recorded, mixed, mastered and designed by just one man – Maciek Pasinski.

Pogavranjen – Sebi Jesi Meni Nisi

Format: Digisleeve CD
Country: Croatia
Genre: Black Metal

Info: After two EP releases, and a debut album that wiped the boundaries of the black metal genre and brought the band to a firm and clear position at the crossroads of avant-garde, psychedelia, primitive trance-inducing black metal, and a modern approach devoid of limitations, Pogavranjen, Croatia’s by far most prominent black metal band, release their second titanic escapade. On Sebi Jesi Meni Nisi, the trademark sound of the band evolved into something truly terrifying.

Veterans of Croatian extreme music use primordial negativity and blackness of bleak modern existence to painfully stomp a 42 minute long march through wastelands of rancid psyche fueled by complete lack of hope. Through disgust and bewildering bestiality, Pogavranjen present the dawn of a new era of originality by painting the blackest of landscapes.

While being endlessly negative, ugly and malevolent, Sebi Jesi Meni Nisi strikes with its progressive and meditative elements. It is an album which emanates a macabre deathly glow, as well as ambitious freshness. Its visonary construction and virtuose musicianship echo through the avant-garde black metal underground.

Mentor – Guts, Graves and Blasphemy

Format: Jewelcase CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Black/Thrash Metal, Hard-Core Punk

Info: In times when the majority tend to categorize music by coming up with the most bizarre tags and shoving it all the way through pidgeon holes, Mentor’s blasphemous and straightforward emanation of heavy music’s essential traits appears like a spit in the face. Enforcing the idea of “a sonic porn for those who like it fast and heavy”, Guts, Graves and Blasphemy, Mentor’s debut full-length offering is a highly explosive cauldron merging the elements of black/thrash metal, hardcore punk and plain rock’n’roll. Guts, Graves and Blasphemy has been recorded, mixed and mastered by the band’s own Haldor Grunberg who apart from the solid low-end, provided the album with a crushing production. The stellar artwork done by Branca Studios (Angel Witch, King Dude, Venom, Cirith Ungol inter alia) perfectly highlights the graveyard lust these four bastards have.

pogavranjen---jedva-cekam-da-nikad-ne-umrem-front-2016

Pogavranjen “Jedva Čekam Da Nikad Ne Umrem”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Croatia
Genre: Avant-Garde Black Metal

Info: Pogavranjen’s third full length enterprise “Jedva Čekam Da Nikad Ne Umrem” (Looking Forward To Never Die) is yet again a step towards uncharted deserts of dark, progressive and moody soundscapes. Structuring contemporary discipline of black metal into something much more refined and evolved, quite often borderline psychedelic and jazzy, Pogavranjen emerged as a banner wielder well beyond the borders of usual formulas. Keeping the avantgarde edge thru the entire trip, Jedva Čekam Da Nikad Ne Umrem deepens the obvious obsession with abrasive, almost gain-free stringworks and masterful polyrhythmic drumming solutions.

entropia-ufonaut-regular-cd

Entropia “Ufonaut”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Twisting Psychedelic Black Metal

Info: „Ufonaut” is the result of a three years’ long experimentation and delves within a psychedelic vision of the world lacking peace and divine order. The seven tracks included on the album are proving that the band released itself from any boundaries of convenience and safety of well-known measures, which in return allowed them to create the album filled with madness, anger and disdain for reality that is full of trivial illusions. In terms of music, „Ufonaut” is filled with hypnotic riffs based on the bands’ trademark intricate harmonies and drum patterns. The caleidoscopic compositions, full of twists and turns are the legacy of numerous trips within consciousness and inner self.

Reassured that the future of mankind must be psychedelic or there may be none at all, Entropia stands out as zealots of Terrence McKenna’s futuristic vision of the world, demanding the restitution of tribal consciousness and discarding the materialistic civilisation that surrounds us. Rising our heads towards the endless void, we await the incoming answer in silence.

in-twilights-embrace-the-grim-muse-cd-mockup

In Twilight’s Embrace “The Grim Muse”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Melodic Death Metal

Info: Driven by bitterness, disillusion and doubt, ‘The Grim Muse’ is the defining work of In Twilight’s Embrace. Guest vocals were provided by Rambo (Bloodthirst), Paweł Bartulewicz (The Dead Goats) and Tomas Lindberg (At the Gates, Disfear).

The Dead Goats “Don’t go in the Tomb”

Format: Digipack MCD
Country: Poland
Genre: Death Metal

Info: „After critically acclaimed debut album, miniLP, demo and splits, The Dead Goats strike back with another piece! “Don’t go in the tomb” consists of three new compositions in the vein of old-school Swedish death metal – a style so characteristic for The Dead Goats. Once again they confirm being the spiritual successors of Nihilist, Grave and Entombed. Produced by Satanic Audio (Thaw, Eerie).

kurhan-glod-cd-mockup

Kurhan “Głód”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Black/Death/Thrash Metal

Info: „Głód” is 8 tracks of devastating, thick and yet elaborate black/death metal with a certain thrashy twist. The album was recorded in Czyściec Studio under a hearful ear of Nihil and with Ntr (of Furia/Massemord’s fame) on drums.

vexatus-atom-pompeii-cd-mockup

Vexatus “Atom Pompeii”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Death Metal

Info: The reissue of the Vexatus’s second album from 2013! After their debut “Tortura”, Vexatus recorded an album exploring the regions one could hardly expect. On the one hand it is strongly rooted in classic Swedish Death Metal, on the other hand it has this post-apocalyptic drive that’s hard to define.

eerie-into-everlasting-death-cd-mockup

Eerie “Into Everlasting Death”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Black Metal

Info: Eerie’s debut album presents itself as the uncommonly full-fledged, yet extreme music. Outstanding sound achieving the world-class level, thought-over compositions and perfectly arranged and performed vocals are just a few reasons why “Into Everlasting Death” would be one of the best Black Metal releases of 2014.

Sigihl “Trauermärsche (And A Tango Upon The World’s Grave)”

Format: Digipack CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Doom/Drone/Black Metal

Info: Trauermärsche (and a tango upon the world’s grave)” is a truly unique piece: Heavy and disgusting. Abhorring and intriguing. Sick and enticing. The amazing mixture of sludge, doom, drone and black metal with a touch of saxophone and insane vocals. You’ve never heard anything like this before, and when it gets into your head – it’s there to stay.

abusiveness-bramy-nawii-cd-mockup

Abusiveness “Bramy Nawii”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Black Metal

Info: Four years after the strike of the praised „Trioditis”, Abusiveness are back with their fourth album! „Bramy Nawii” (Polish for „The Gates of Nawia”) is easily the best, the most intense and thoughtful offering in the entire career of Lublin’s own pagan black metal veterans. The monumental sound of Vizun’s rabid drum cannonades laced with stellar guitar work and venomous battlecries of Mścisław and Xaos Oblivion is reinforced with guest appearances of Knjaz Varggoth (Nokturnal Mortum) and Sonneillon (Blaze of Perdition). Two decades since its unholy ignition, the heathen flame burns stronger than ever before! Excellent graphic artwork provided by Robert A. von Ritter and Kontamination Design.

Genius Ultor - Nic Co Boskie Nie Jest Mi Obce

Genius Ultor “Nic co boskie nie jest mi obce”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Black Metal

Info: Four years after the release of the debut album Dzień Nocy (via Ataman Productions), Genius Ultor once again spits in the face of humanity and its idols. Nic Co Boskie Nie Jest Mi Obce [I Consider Nothing That Is Divine Alien To Me – English title] – accompanied by such an impudent statement, Wirus, Zgorzel and Kra have created an album that is incredibly blasphemous, arrogant, and devoid of love for fellow men. It was recorded within the stale and moldy walls of a pre-war house, haunted by what it has witnessed – complete human humiliation and degradation. Hate, pride, the reek of ethanol followed by the taste of warm blood – all of this is apparent within the seven tracks comprising the album.

Odraza “Esperalem Tkane”

Format: Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Post Black Metal

Info: Esperalem Tkane consists of 7 black metal tracks reeking of digested booze, aged sweat, cheap cigarettes and the general atmosphere of a filthy gutter. The band comments: We talk about what’s present amongst the old, decrepit buildings, the council estates in a huge city. About the things left behind us, about the sum of all failures, and the loneliness that haunts us all. These are the things that disgust us. The lowest aspects of life and, perhaps, the most significant things around us – our own mirror reflection.

Evil Machine - War In Heaven

Evil Machine “War in Heaven”

Format: Super Jewel Case CD
Country: Poland
Genre: Black/Death/Doom Metal

Info: Old school black / death / doom in vein of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost (old) with members of Vader, Behemoth, Hate and Dead Infection.
